Braai Day: Come and gone

Yesterday South Africa celebrated what has to be one of its most well-loved public holidays, National Braai Day. Or as some would rather call it… Heritage Day. Same same but different (apparently).

Anyway, It’s been terribly quiet over here on the blog front, mainly because for the last 2 weeks or so I’ve been working at getting the Food24 Braai Recipe page in order. I am officially “braaied-out” and don’t mind if I never see a piece of charred meat on a fire again for at least a month, or until the Halloween recipes start coming in! Sigh.

Never a dull moment in this neck of the woods.

How was your long weekend? Do anything fun or different?

On Friday evening I attended the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Jeunes Sommeliers competitition gala dinner at the Table Bay Hotel – which was possibly the most formal event and furthest thing from any braai one could imagine. The 12 competitors came from all across the world with Jeff Lopes from The Saxon Hotel, representing RSA. Unfortunately he didn’t make the top 3, which was his goal, but I guess he’s got next year! The overall winner was Christopher Bates from the USA. There was no playing of national anthems etc but it really did feel like an Olympic awards ceremony of sorts.

Read more about it here.

off to get some work done. If you’re in South Africa, have a great 4-day week! And if you’re in Cape Town, enjoy the SUN 🙂
