Hello and welcome to my cosy little place in Cyberspace. Thanks for visiting!

I’m Tessa Purdon, an Eastern Cape farm girl living in Cape Town, South Africa. I started Girl with a Teacup in the beginning of 2011. Blogging sounded like fun! And it is (most of the time).

I graduated from The Institute of Culinary Arts in 2008 and went straight into the wine industry after spending 5 months working in a boutique wine shop in Constantia. I began selling wine through direct marketing channels and then later, to restaurants and boutique hotels for an established estate in Stellenbosch.

I travelled abroad for most of 2010 and returned to South Africa with no real ‘plan’ – as I had no desire to go back into wine sales. I enrolled for a 1 year qualification in journalism with the hope of sharpening my writing and editing,Β  as well as enhancing my skill set by gaining more experience in digital media. I worked at Food24.com, Africa’s biggest food website for over a year and got sucked into the world of social media. I now manage the social media platforms for a big South African retail brand.

Food and wine are two of my favourite things but I’m happy to say that my life is not governed by them. I balance out the glasses of bubbly and Valrhona chocolate fondants with a healthy injection of exercise. I’m a running, trail-running, strength-training and yoga fanatic and always try to adapt recipes for a more nutrient-dense, healthy and satisfying result.

This blog serves as a platform for me to connect with other like-minded people and to share a few of my thoughts, feelings, experiences and opinions.

it was a real pleasure to meet you on monday evening at ‘Wild Peacock’ in Stellenbosch, and to appreciate your passion for sustainable seafood.
in these selfish times, it is always nice to meet people with positive environmental conciousness, especially when we have invested and directed our business based on these ethics.

The support & positive feedback on our farmed green listed ‘OCEANWISE’ Kabeljou was very encouraging.

Please forward me your email address and I will send you on photographs and information on our facilities, processes and business, and answer any further questions that you might have for your ‘newsletter’ and Blog.
